The Social Welfare Department (SWD) and non-governmental organisations provide various child care services for families in need, including:
- Day Child Care Services
SWD subsidises non-governmental organisations to provide different types of child care services, including Child Care Centre Service and Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project, to assist parents who cannot take care of their young children because of work or other reasons.

- Child Care Centre (CCC) Service [including standalone CCCs and CCCs attached to Kindergartens]
- Occasional Child Care Service
- Extended Hours Service
- Harmonisation of Pre-primary Services (Education Bureau)
Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project
The Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project aims to provide needy parents with a flexible form of day child care service at the neighbourhood level and, at the same time, to foster mutual help and care in the community. - Residential Child Care Services
Provide residential child care services, including non-institutional care and institutional care, for children and young persons under the age of 21 who cannot be adequately cared for by their families because of reasons such as family, behavioural, emotional problems, etc. Referral should be made by the social worker responsible for the case for application for these services.

- After School Care Programme for Pre-primary Children
Provide group/individual activities to children aged three to under six or attending nursery (K1), lower (K2) or upper (K3) classes in kindergartens/kindergarten-cum-child care centres.

- After School Care Programme (ASCP) for Primary School Student
Operated by non-governmental organisations on a self-financing and fee-charging basis for offering support services, including homework guidance, parental guidance and education, skill learning, social activities, etc. for primary school students.
