Women Empowerment Fund (WEF)

Women Empowerment Fund aims to empower women, regardless of their age, occupation, background, etc., to realise their full potentials in their respective arenas, ultimately achieving the goal of promoting women’s development in Hong Kong.
Established in June 2023 and with an annual allocation of $20 million, the Fund provides subsidies to non-profit-making women’s groups and related non-governmental organisations to launch community projects. The Fund has so far approved 145 projects.
Projects under the WEF are categorised into general projects and thematic projects. For approved general projects, their themes include assisting women in accomplishing transformations in the job market; enhancing the awareness of women’s physical and mental health; helping women to cope with different roles in family and society; motivating women to enhance their personal attributes and achieve full potential; and facilitating the use of new information and communication technology. The funded organisations are required to devise projects according to users’ actual needs. The funded projects are launched in diversified formats, including workshops, training courses, talks, practice sessions, etc.
Thematic projects include “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Exchange Programme” (Exchange Programme) and “Programme on Women’s Participation in Community Services” (Community Services Programme, CSP). Through providing an opportunity for women to conduct visits in Macau or the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area of the Mainland, the Exchange Programme promotes women’s development through broadening their horizons, deepening their understanding of our country’s development, and enabling them to have exchanges with local people. Each Exchange Programme comprises a briefing, an exchange tour and a sharing session. CSP aims to encourage women to make use of their own strength to jointly plan and launch community service projects, thereby promoting care and inclusion. Funded organisations are required to set a theme for the community services projects which meets the prevailing needs of the society and determine the target beneficiaries of the projects. Each CSP comprises training courses, community services projects and sharing sessions.
Should you wish to join the funded projects, please search the activities in the thematic website of WEF and approach the organisers direct.
