Employees Retraining
The Employees Retraining Board (ERB) is a statutory body which co-ordinates, funds and monitors training courses and services provided by about 80 training bodies with around 370 training centres across the territory.
ERB provides around 700 training courses that are market driven and employment-oriented, straddling 28 industries and generic skills training to help trainees map out their progression ladder and nurture talent for various industries.
Service Targets
- Eligible employees of Hong Kong (i.e. lawfully employable and not subject to conditions of stay, including Hong Kong permanent residents and new arrivals); and
- Aged 15 or above; and
- Applicants should meet the entry requirements of courses, including industry / occupation-specific licensing or statutory requirements.
Training Courses
To cater for the training needs of different service targets, ERB provides a diverse range of training courses, including:
- Placement-tied Courses: tailored for the unemployed or non-engaged
- Skills Upgrading Courses: skills enhancement training for in-service practitioners
- Generic Skills Courses: workplace generic skills training for people from all industries
- Youth Training Courses: skills training for young people
- Other Dedicated Courses: skills training for specific service targets
Course Fee and Arrangement
Placement-tied Courses tailored for the unemployed or non-engaged are offered free-of-charge. Trainees who have completed Placement-tied Courses with an attainment of at least 80% attendance rate will be provided with a three to six month placement follow-up service by training bodies to help them re-enter the job market. Skills Upgrading Courses and Generic Skills Courses (Non-placement-tied Courses) are fee charging. Eligible trainees can apply for course fee waiver or fee subsidies according to their income levels.
